Kevin has been selected for the NIH-funded (T32) Houston Area Molecular Biophysics Training Program, where he will use cryo-EM and cryo-ET to study the nanometer-scale structure of foreign body reactions.
Dr. Han, together with Dr. Xie from Rice University and Dr. Barone from Houston Methodist, has received a grant to study how brain tissue responds to ultraflexible neural implants. Their research aims to understand this brain-implant interface to help develop more stable, long-lasting brain-computer devices for treating neurological disorders. See the news for more details.

Dr. Han attended the WelchX Conference in June 2025 to discuss exciting new research initiatives aimed at advancing chemical research. During the conference, Dr. Han partnered with Prof. Yuanyue Liu from UT Austin, and together they were awarded a WelchX pilot grant.

Our abstract submissions to the M&M Conference were well received by the community and recognized through multiple awards. Dr. Chuqiao Shi received the 2025 M&M Postdoctoral Award, and Adan Mireles was honored with the 2025 M&M Student Travel Award. Congratulations!!!

Dr. Han leads the MSNE team, alongside Dr. Hanyu Zhu and Dr. Ricardo Zednik, and received the 2025 Brown Teaching Award and the 2025 R2C2 OURI grant in recognition of their innovative contributions and proposed new course to advance undergraduate education in Materials Science.
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Yimo Han has been selected as a JMR Distinguished Invited Speaker at the 2025 MRS Spring Meeting. This prestigious recognition is awarded by the Journal of Materials Research (JMR) to honor leading and early career scientists making significant contributions to the field of materials science.
Dr. Han will present her group’s cutting-edge research at the MRS Spring Meeting in Seattle, highlighting recent advances in 4D-STEM and its applications in nano-catalysis.
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Xinyan Li has been selected as a RAMI Postdoctoral Fellow! This is a significant achievement, and congratulations, Dr. Li, on this well-deserved recognition!
Congratulations to Sara! She received the Best Poster Award at M&M 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio, where she presented her work on graphene-covered cryo-EM grids.
